Android Wear is now Wear OS! Here is the list of devices which will be updated

Google’s Android Wear is now Wear OS. Yes, Google has rebranded its Android wear platform after 4 years since its launch in 2014. There is no new feature update or added to the platform neither there was a big event for this. Google just renamed the Android Wear and there is a new logo for Wear OS too!

This information was shared by Dennis Troper, Director of Product Management for Wear OS by Google in his blog post. You can read the blog here.

It is worth noting that there is no new feature addition to already existing wear platform. However, this move by Google signifies that it has now taking the wear platform more seriously. The rebranding also makes sense in a way that until last year, Android wear platform only supported Android watches paired with Android smartphones only. Now Google has also added iPhone compatibility to the wear platform. Hence the old name ‘Android Wear’ can be termed as a bit misleading and now it has been branded to more neutral form.

As per Dennis Troper, “You’ll begin to see the new name on your watch and phone app over the next few weeks.”

Along with this information, Google has also revealed the list of all the android smartwatches which will receive the Wear OS update. The list can be found here.
